BIOGRAPHY: Paul M O'Donnell Paul O'Donnell is CEO of the Canonbury Group and President of Canonbury Securities Limited, based in London, which provides financial market strategic advice, alternative asset management and distribution services which was established in 1998. He started his career in 1972 in commercial banking with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia serving as a bank teller. He then moved on to the corporate finance group and capital markets team where he traded in structured finance products and designed the bank's first off balance sheet transactions. In 1984 he joined Bankers Trust Australia in their capital markets business where he was involved in underwriting, trading, structuring and distributing institutional financial products. In 1988 he established the banks' securitization business and in 1989 co-established the banks' Leveraged Buy Out group. In 1990 he moved to the asset management business with Bankers Trust. By 1992 he was sent to Hong Kong as a Managing Director to establish the firm's first international venture, an Asia regional asset management business. Under his leadership, his business raised a record US$200 million dollars in retail assets in the first twelve months of operation. He negotiated and subsequently directed two joint ventures in Taiwan and Thailand during this time. Bankers Trust then asked him to head the Bankers Trust retail and institutional asset management business in Europe and the Middle East in 1996. Since establishing the Canonbury Group (formerly O'Donnell Partners Limited) in 1998 he was a co-founder of Global Distribution Partners Inc, Malmgren-O'Donnell (both subsequently sold) and Global Fund Advisors Network, which is now represented in 11 countries throughout the world. Paul also serves as a mentor with YAPA (Young Australian Professionals in America) and is working with NFTE (National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship) to establish its programs in Australia. He is a graduate of the University of Technology in Sydney Australia, a Certified Practicing Accountant (Australia) and a Justice of the Peace (Australia). He is a member of the Reform Club, a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society, the Association of Investment Management Sales Executives and a member of the British Institute of Directors. Paul is a regular commentator on financial market and economic matters in television, in print media and at conferences.
